Day One - Arriving at Derwent Hill

What a brilliant first day!

The journey took just over two hours, which was plenty of time to ask "Are we there yet?". Year 5 were extremely well behaved on the coach and thankfully no one suffered from travel sickness! When we arrived, the scenery was beautiful and we were all very excited. The excitement was dampened slightly when we realised that we needed to carry our suitcases up the stairs! Also, making our own beds was ... eventful!

Once we had settled into our rooms, we enjoyed lunch while making new friends with children from the other schools. After lunch we headed out in our groups to start the activities, which included hill walking and low ropes. The weather has been very windy ... This made standing on the top of the hill very difficult!

After our fun activities we enjoyed our evening meal. Just when we thought we were ready for a rest, we put our outdoor kit back on and headed out for a night line activity. We had to guide each other around the grounds ... whilst blind folded! Miss Best, Mrs Tyson and Mrs Norton definitely did not laugh when children had close encounters with bushes and stepped over imaginary objects!

Thank you for all of the comments on the blog. We will try to reply to as many as we can, although the Derwent Hill staff are keeping us all very busy!

  1. Hi Libs and Year 5
It looks like you're all having a great time. I hope you managed to carry your stash of quavers, fruit shoots and jaffa cakes to your bedroom. Kate has asked Mammy to have a game of "wars" in the bath tonight but Mammy wasn't very keen.
Have a great time tomorrow deep sea diving, big game hunting and parachuting, we'll be at home knitting (and missing you).
Be good, stay safe and 5 a day. Love Mam, Dad and Kate XXXX
